Destini handed a stack of plates to Jace. “Would you put those on the table?”

“Sure,” he said, looking questioningly at the pizza boxes.

Destini caught his glance and smiled. “Time to upgrade your manners, young man,” she said. He set the three plates at one end of the kitchen table. “Silverware is in the drawer by the sink.”

Jace shook his head as he made his way to the other side of the kitchen island where she was pouring a bottle of champagne into a pitcher of orange juice. Recognizing her hands were busy and she wasn’t paying him much attention, he wrapped his arms around her tiny waist and pulled close to her, leaning down so he could kiss her neck.

“Oh, such a gentle touch.” She turned her head toward him and they kissed. Sliding his hands beneath her lightweight shirt, he ran rough hands over a thin bra that covered her small breasts. She arched her back, pressing her hips into him.

“Jace!” Doctor Laird’s excited voice startled both of them and Jace jumped back, pulling his hands quickly from beneath Destini’s shirt.

Laird rounded the corner into the kitchen, her face flush with excitement. She blinked for a moment as the scene in the kitchen resolved itself. A grin played on her lips. “Sorry to interrupt,” she said.

“Uh, we weren’t doing anything,” Jace said apologetically.

“You weren’t groping Doctor Oliver and she wasn’t rubbing her butt into your crotch?” Laird asked.

Jace looked at Destini, stymied. She grinned as she turned to Laird. “What’s going on, Lana? You’re so flush.”

“You both have to come, that dwarf in Mud Flats is asking for Trimble,” she said.

“What do you mean asking for me?” Jace asked, his embarrassment at being caught vanishing instantly. “She’s an NPC. She can’t ask for me.”

“Well, there’s more. She knows about stuff she shouldn’t. I switched my class to Warrior and ran a quick quest. When I brought my loot back, she said she needed to talk to you. That they were concerned about the recent world changes.”

Jace didn’t respond but instead stepped around the curvy woman and made a mad dash for the garage. Sliding to a halt he noticed that the game’s perspective was Mud Flats’ Trading Post. Standing behind the counter was the voluptuous dwarf with long red-orange braided hair that hung past her waist. It wasn’t lost on him that her character model had been significantly refined. Instead of a slightly cartoonish look, she was very lifelike.

Uncannily, her eyes followed Jace as he approached the gaming chair and equipped the headset. “Well met, Jace Trimble,” she said, bowing deeply at the waist.

Jace was surprised when he discovered that the logged-in character had changed to Trimble. There were so many questions in his mind, but he kept his manners. “Well met, madame dwarf,” he said. “You seem to know my name, might I ask yours?”

“You be a speakin’ with Thula. It be to our embarrassment that our first meetin’ be a made in this manner, but recent changes
